As promised, we drive closer to the mountains today. Just outside Paarl, we drive up the hill to the Taalmonument, the Afrikaans Language Monument.
As promised, we drive closer to the mountains today. Just outside Paarl, we drive up the hill to the Taalmonument, the Afrikaans Language Monument.
It is a very graceful cluster of concrete monuments.
The views in every direction are absolutely breathtaking
This is the tallest spire
It is said that the acoustics inside it are phenomenal. Naturally, I have to try it out with a bit of a yodel.
Unfortunately, Theresa's phone camera plays a trick and turns the video upside down. Nothing any of us tries later on will turn it up the right way. In fact, Marc's efforts end up turning everything on Theresa's laptop up the wrong way, but the video steadfastly refuses to do the right thing.
So, contrary to what it looks like, I am not suspended by my ankles. But who cares, it is the sound I want to convey.
The monument is surrounded by a lovely park.

Leaving the monument and Paarl, we come closer and closer to the mountains.
We are heading for Franshhoek - the French Corner.
Not surprisingly, this is a wine area.
We drive through the town and up the hill a bit to take in the views.
On the way back towards town, we call in on one of the wineries which has the cellar hewn into the rock with large glass panels in the bar area looking down into the cellar.
Very impressive, but also very posh and one does not dare take photos. Wine tasting here involves lunch and is very pricey.
The only photo I dare take is of this interesting looking tree in the car park. Who knows what it is.
We head back down towards town and visit the Huguenot Monument.
The Museum is closed for the winter.
It is time to have some lunch now, so we stop in town and find somewhere nice.
It is a very picturesque town with many galleries and boutiques.
There is even a Wine Tram which makes really good sense.
Another day draws to a close, a day spent with my friend. She drives back via Stellenbosch, a university town, and calls in at the market where Marc has already packed up the gear because the market finishes today.
Marc cooks a Bobotie tonight. If you check out the link you get the recipe for it. Try. It's very yummy.
