A week in Cape Town - Day 4

Monday, August 6th, 2018

Despite the rather questionable weather, Theresa and I are heading off for some sightseeing. Today we're visiting the  Tygerberg Nature Reserve.

When we arrive, we find the carpark full of police vehicles. Apparently, there is some kind of conference happening. It must be a copse of cops.

Up there is where we are headed. It is an easy enough walk except for the fact that the higher we go, the stronger the wind blows.

It seems that the pine trees up here are suffering from some kind of disease which causes them to fall over. There are signs on many trees telling the visitors to be extra careful.

Of all the Fauna and Flora up here, this is the only little flower I can spot.
But the views make up for everything.

When we reach the top, we are very glad we thought to bring our beanies. The wind is absolutely freezing.

Below is the story of the cannon we are leaning against.

There are walking trails everywhere. One of them would lead all the way to Signal Hill.
Not today though.

On the way back down, we call in at the Environmental Education Garden.
The signage is sponsored by Rotary.

There are various things flowering.
Some plants I am familiar with, others are totally alien to me.

The entire little garden is a very clever and most interesting setup. If it wasn't so freezing cold, one could downright enjoy oneself for quite a while here.

We drive on down into town and take refuge at the Waterfront.

It's time for some lunch anyway. However, finding something is not all that easy today as every establishment is short staffed due to a taxi strike.
The strike has the advantage that the traffic is thinner and less chaotic today.
We do find a cafe that has a warming soup for us.
While we enjoy our soup, heaven opens up outside.

There is nothing for it but to enjoy the great indoors for the time being. There are some interesting things to see.
This statue of Nelson Mandela is made entirely of tiny little beads. Absolutely amazing.

The idea was to walk round to the other side and see the clock tower close up, but with the weather the way it is, the zoom lens has to do.

Despite some inclement weather, it has been another memorable day in the company of my school friend.
Another home cooked meal awaiting us rounds the day off perfectly.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.
